The amfAR's 7th charity gala raised in excess of $1.6 million, all thanks to big name attendees that included actress Dakota Johnson.

Stars twinkled bright late Saturday night as fashion icons, moguls, music and film stars and socialites all came together in central Milan to raise funds for the Foundation for AIDS Research.

The amfAR's 7thcharity gala raised in excess of $1.6 million, all thanks to big name attendees that included actress Dakota Johnson, singer Pixie Lott, and model turned television host Heidi Klum, who is also one of the organizers of the event.

Reuters reported that one hot item up for grabs at the live auction was a chance to race fast cars against Michelle Rodriguez of "Fast and Furious" on a Las Vegas track.

This opportunity sold to two bidders who paid a total of 150,000 euros ($167,820).

Other items that were auctioned off in the name of charity included a signed piece by Francis Bacon, two Andy Warhol works, and an autographed picture of Debbie Harry.

Harry also performed during the evening.

As the amfAR charity gala is an offshoot of Milan Fashion Week, talk inevitably touched on fashion.

"There's something wonderful about the way Italians dress up," said Kenneth Cole, reported The New York Times.

Cole serves as amfAR'a chairman of the board and a chairman for the event.

"That is true. I love that," Heidi Klum, stunning in a bejewelled Atelier Versace gown, chimed in.

"People have so much more fun here with their fashion than in America. You have to give it to the women of Europe."

Renzo Russo, Diesel fashion brand creator, was presented The Award of Courage by Naomi Campbell in recognition of the good work he has done against inequality and in promotion of global sustainable development with his Only The Brave Foundation.

"I try to do my best to make a better world," Mr Russo said in his acceptance speech. "The world needs more people like us. Spend more time to be positive."
