Football Transfer Rumors: Arsenal, Liverpool Set To Battle For PSG's Ezequiel Lavezzi In January

Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly set to battle for the services of Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi when the transfer window re-opens in January.

The 30-year-old Lavezzi is having a productive stint with Les Parisiens since the 2012-2013 season, scoring 32 goals in 136 appearances for the club in four years.

However, when fellow Argentine Ángel Di María arrived from Old Trafford in July, the star midfielder's playing time was significantly diminished. So far, Lavezzi has only played three out of PSG's eight games in the current Ligue 1 season, scoring one goal in the process.

The Villa Gobernador Gálvez native is also in the last year of his contract and it seems like Les Rouge-et-Bleu has no intention of extending it.

Caught Offside reported that Lavezzi "can leave PSG on a free transfer next summer", it sure is possible that the French champions would choose to sell him this winter even at a bargain price as they could use the money to add to the pot for Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be the top two contenders for the Argentina international. Arsene Wenger is allegedly already talking with Gunners officials to prepare an undisclosed bid for Lavezzi this early.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers and the Reds had been talking with PSG about acquiring Lavezzi for the last two transfer windows, although no deal was still agreed between the two clubs, as per Metro.

It remains to be seen which of the English teams would eventually get Lavezzi, but it sure would be a tough decision to make for the player and his team come January.
