HBO in Talks with Warner Bros. for ‘Watchmen’ TV Series

HBO and Warner Bros. are in talks to create a new TV drama around the DC Comics series "Watchmen" by creators Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

"Watchmen" was adapted to the big screen back in 2009 and helmed by "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" director Zack Snyder.

Now, however, Snyder is currently discussing the possibility of developing another live-action adaptation of "Watchmen" with HBO but this time as a TV series comparable to "Game of Thrones."

George R. R. Martin's New York Times best-selling novels have been a standout success for the cable television network but a replacement is likely being considered with the series about to come to a close soon.

Collider wrote an exclusive on the potential new TV series which HBO confirmed though no details were released as of the moment.

No deal has taken place but WB and HBO could create a "Watchmen" TV series with three possible stories to consider-a prequel, a sequel, or a new adaptation of the original series.

DC Comics had published a series of prequel comic books involving the different characters from the 12-issue maxi series dubbed "Before Watchmen" in 2012.

HBO can adapt these stories instead and keep the "Watchmen" movie as the point in which the prequels lead up to.

Then again, they could bring to life the original series on TV which is what that comic book was made for much more than a movie.

Another possibility is a sequel that explores the world of the "Watchmen" and the repercussions of the series' conclusion.

However, among the three storyline considerations, this is the most unlikely as "Watchmen" pretty much ends with a proper conclusion to the plot points presented in the series.

Regardless of what story HBO and WB come to terms with, comic book fans are definitely excited to see this classic story on television. The only thing missing is for both parties to conclude that this is a worthy endeavor to pursue.
