Microblogging site Twitter has acknowledged the trending Philippine couple AlDub as a global phenomenon.
"Aldub is a global phenomenon on Twitter and shows how our platform as the social soundtrack to TV has really connected Filipinos who love a good love story," GMA News quoted Twitter's Asia Pacific and Middle East vice president of Media Rishi Jaitly.
In addition, Jaitly said, "We can't wait to see if the live, public Aldub conversation can set global records by uniting their passionate fans, the nation and the world on Twitter."
There were more than 25,652,800 tweets with the hashtag #ALDubEBforLOVE on Sept. 26, which broke the record originally set by the Super Bowl XLIX with 25.1 million tweets and the 2015 Video Music Awards with 21.4 million tweets.
The hashtag #ALDubEBforLOVE refers to Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza, better known as Yaya Dub and the Philippine variety show "Eat Bulaga," where they are both featured.
Meanwhile, Jack Dorsey is expected to be named the new permanent CEO of Twitter, which he co-founded after serving as interim CEO. On the other hand, sources told re/code that it is yet to be confirmed if Dorsey's appointment has been made official.
According to the sources, the board was still settling the status of other key Twitter executives, particularly revenue chief Adam Bain, who is expected to become COO, and CFO Anthony Noto, who may also report directly to Dorsey.
Both Bain and Noto reportedly want Dorsey to be the new permanent Twitter CEO. While awaiting his official appointment, Dorsey will still run the payments company Square, of which he is the founder and CEO.
