Chinese electronics maker Hisense will be expanding across southern African countries as part of its continued commitment to the continent, the company announced on Saturday.

Hisense has launched a new range of smartphones, televisions and refrigerators in Zambia, one of 15 African countries where the company had established presence, a spokesperson from Hisense said in an interview with the state-owned Xinhua News Agency.

Hisense Deputy General Manager Pedro Teixeira said that the move highlights the importance the company places on the Zambian market.

"Zambia has been on our radar for a long time and we are proud to be able to officially launch our product range locally. I urge customers to compare the value for money offered by Hisense products against other brands, I'm sure they will be pleasantly surprised to see what Hisense has to offer," he said. "There is a particularly good opportunity for our TVs in the market as our pricing is very competitive."

Hisense has had 25 years of experience in the Zambian market, with all major retailers set to stock Hisense products through Hazida Ltd., the brand's sole distributor in the country, according Xinhua.

Hisense is set to make a big impact locally, said Hazida spokesperson Riaz Mulla.

One of the key products Hisense will be offering in the southern African region is a new range of ultra LED (ULED) televisions that feature 3D-based capabilities and a high dynamic range. Other products that will be offered include smartphones and various refrigerator models.

For the past decade, Hisense has steadily established a presence in the African continent with factories in South Africa, Egypt and Algeria. The company has also set up an export division catering to African countries, including Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana and Lesotho.
