"Castle" season 8 co-showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley recently clarified that Rick Castle and Stana Katic will not get a divorce.

In the previous episodes of the hit ABC series, Kate told Rick that she will stay away from him. Even after Rick said that she should not do it, Kate packed her bags and then left him for good.

At that time, fans immediately reacted online, and questioned Winter and Hawley's decision to break up the two.

Now, the co-showrunners told The Hollywood Reporter that the split is temporary, and no divorce will take place.

"The reality is they've really been together since season five. The wedding was last season, but as a couple they've been together and happy for several seasons now. For us we thought, 'Let's throw an obstacle in their way.' Nobody's getting divorced. They're not splitting up forever. This is an obstacle in the way that is going to make them ultimately stronger as a couple once they get through it," Winter explained.

Meanwhile, even though Rick and Kate may be broken up as of the moment, the onscreen couple will still have plenty of scenes together.

in fact, on Monday night's episode, entitled, "PhDead," Rick and Kate already worked on a case together. The former even tried to win back the latter by reminding her of what she once fell in love with.

Additionally, fans can expect more fun episodes in the coming weeks where Rick and Kate will go back to how they were in the earlier seasons of "Castle."

"Castle" season 8 airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
