Joseph Gordon Levitt talks About 'The Walk' & ‘Snowden’ Calls Edward Snowden A Patriot

Recently, KCET's Cinema Series hosted a screening and Q&A with host Pete Hammond and Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

KCET's Cinema Series hosted a screening and Q&A with host Pete Hammond and Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt On Oct. 6. The actor talked about his two big movie projects, "The Walk" and "Snowden" during the comprehensive conversation.

Gordon-Levitt talked about how he learned to walk on the rope with Philippe Petit as his mentor for his role in "The Walk". He also discussed his experience meeting Edward Snowden for his upcoming role in Oliver Stone's feature film "Snowden."

The actor revealed that meeting Petit was very helpful not just for the role but also for personal enhancement.

"Just as valuable as learning to walk on the wire was just spending time with him as a person, because the thing that I loved about this job as much as I loved doing the wire, and I loved the challenge of playing French. What I really loved was the complexity of the human being," said Gordon-Levitt in an interview with KCET.

"The Walk"  is based on the story of the  French high-wire artist who, gained fame for his high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, on  Aug. 7, 1974.

In 2008, "Man on Wire," a documentary directed by James Marsh about Petit's walk between the towers, won many awards. He was also the subject of a children's book and an animated adaptation of it, released in 2005.

"The Walk," a movie based on Petit's walk starring Gordon-Levitt as Petit. The film was released by TriStar Pictures on Sept.30, in the USA in IMAX 3D, and on Oct.9, in regular 2D and 3D.

Meanwhile, Gordon-Levitt met Edward Snowden, the well-known NSA whistleblower. Gordon-Levitt met Snowden, who now resides in Russia for researching the part he is playing in Oliver Stone's biopic "Snowden."

"I found him just really warm, and open, and incredibly passionate about the well-being of the world, and our country. He is very much a patriot... in his mind and now of course, plenty of people would argue that what he did was not patriotic," continued Gordon-Levitt.

"Snowden" is an upcoming American biographical political thriller film directed by Oliver Stone and written by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald. The film is based on the book "The Snowden Files" by Luke Harding.

The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Snowden, an American computer professional who leaked top secret information from the National Security Agency (NSA) to The Guardian in June of 2013.

The film stars Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Scott Eastwood, Melissa Leo, Timothy Olyphant, Zachary Quinto, Nicolas Cage and Tom Wilkinson. "Snowden" is scheduled to be released in North America in 2016.
