Director Frankie Chen's retrospective romance "Our Times" has become a hit in the Taiwanese box office, earning the title of fifth highest-grossing Taiwanese film of all time in the domestic market as of Sunday.

"Our Times" has grossed more than NT$400 million ($12.25 million) domestically since it was released on Aug. 13, according to a statement by Hualien Media International, the film's distributor, on Monday.

Among the high-grossing domestic films in Taiwan, "Our Times" is bested only by romantic comedy "Cape No. 7," which grossed NT$530 million ($16.25 million); historical epic "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale Part 1," which grossed NT$472 million ($14.5 million); comedy "David Loman," which grossed NT$428 million ($13.15 million); and the romance "You Are the Apple of My Eye," which grossed NT$410 million ($12.6 million).

The high-school flashback film marks the directorial debut of Frankie Chen and is produced by Chen Yu Shan, who is known for producing hit dramas like "Autumn's Concerto," "King of Lan Ling" and "Prince Turned into Frog."

The film stars Vivian Sung, Darren Wang, Dino Lee and Dewi Chen as high-school students in 1994, as they come of age and try to make sense of life, love and high school, amid their love rectangle.

The film is told mostly in the form of flashbacks.

"Our Times" also features cameo appearances from Jerry Yan, Chen Qiao En and Andy Lau.

The film has already received three nominations for the upcoming Golden Horse Awards for the best lead actress, best new director and best original film song categories.
