Atlanta Police Arrest Rapper Scarface After Receiving BET Hip-Hop Award

For failure to pay child support, Atlanta Police arrested rapper Scarface on Friday. He was arrested right after receiving the BET Hip-Hop Award.

Hollywood Life reports that Scarface is detained at the Fulton County Jail. Brad Jordan in real life, Scarface left Houston, his hometown, for Atlanta to receive the I Am Hip-Hop Award despite being banned from leaving Texas.

In an online poll, 83 percent of readers of the entertainment website believe that Scarface was aware that he was not allowed to leave the state.

According to FreddyO, an R&B and hip-hop blog, Scarface did not want to disappoint his fans, so he attended the awards ceremony even if he was not allowed to leave the state. Ludacris describes Scarface as one of "hip-hop's best storytellers," while Rick Ross acknowledges the rapper "helped build a culture," reports Billboard.

After he got the award and left the stage to return to the celebrity section, 10 sheriffs were on hand to arrest the rapper. Event host Snoop Dogg was backstage when he saw the arrest and "was upset that, the great moment ended on a sour note," according to the blog.

Scarface has 12 solo albums and is known for his hit singles "Smile," "My Block," "I See a Man Die" and "Mind Playing Tricks On Me" with the Geto Boys.

Previous I Am Hip-Hop awardees include Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, Russell Simmons, Ice Cube, Salt-N-Pepa, LL Cool J, Rakim, MC Lyte and Doug E. Fresh. The awards night will be shown on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m.
