Surface Pro 4 offers better features than Surface Pro 3 in terms of hardware and capabilities

Microsoft just recently unveiled the new Surface Pro 4 on Oct. 6. It offers various features that put it ahead of its predecessor, the Surface Pro 3.

According to the specifications posted on Microsoft's website, the Surface Pro 4 comes with 6-Gen Intel Core processors, a better-quality Surface pen stylus, versatility of a laptop and a tablet and a Windows 10 Pro operating system.

These come as enhancements from Surface Pro 3 which came with less versatility and 4-Gen Intel Core processors. However, the Surface Pro 3 operating system is still upgradable to windows 10 and the tablet is also compatible with the new surface Pro pen.

At a glance, Surface Pro 4 resembles the Surface Pro 3 with the same iconic kickstand and shape. The Pro 4 in real sense, nevertheless, comes with a larger screen despite sharing the same overall width and height with the Pro 3. The Pro 4 also features a 0.6mm thinner and 34 g lighter body compared to its predecessor.

The hardware too comes with various improvements. For starters, the Pro 4 has a bumped display resolution of 2736×1824 compared to 2160×1824 of Pro 3. As a result, the Pro 4 comes with a 267 ppi density, overwhelming that of surface Pro 3.

With the new 6-Gen processors, Microsoft claims that the new Surface Pro 4 comes with a 30 percent boost in speed. On top of it, the tablet's processor is backed up by 16 GB of RAM which is two times that of Pro 3.

Pro 4 storage has increased with models featuring up to 1 TB of storage. Different models come with storages of between 128 GB and 1 TB capacity, with the smallest doubling the entry-level Pro 3 which features a 64 GB storage capacity.

Besides these, Microsoft has also upgraded the rear camera to 8 MP from 5 MP, PC Advisor reported.

Moreover, the Surface pen features more colors, interchangeable tips and 1024 levels of pressure. Besides erasing, the button at the end of the pen can also activate Cortana and open One Note. The pen also attaches to the tablet using a new magnetic technology.

While typing was a bit clumsy on Pro 3, the new Type cover has corrected that hitch. The keys have a 1.33 mm travel and 9.9 mm pitch for a better user experience. The track pad is also 40 percent bigger and better in terms of user capability.

Gauging from the numerous upgrades, Surface Pro 4 undoubtedly offers better features than Surface Pro 3. However, Pro 3 still remains a superior tablet until the Pro 4 arrives.
