The sequel to Joe Wright's "Pan" might not be possible at the moment.
Exhibitor Relations box office analyst Jeff Bock told Variety that the film had a huge misfire and fans would not see another Peter Pan film for a while. After its release on Oct. 9, Wright's fantasy film, which centered on the classic Disney fairy tale character Peter Pan and Neverland, did not perform well at the box office.
According to Box Office Mojo, Joe Wright's fantasy film "Pan," has made an estimated domestic gross of $15.5 million and an estimated foreign gross of $25.1 million, for a total of $40.6 million in a global scale, which is just a tenth of its reported $150 million production budget. It came at number three at the box office, falling behind Genndy Tartakovsky's "Hotel Transylvania," which has got a worldwide gross of $207.7 million.
Meanwhile, Ridley Scott's "The Martian" has kept itself at the number one spot at the box office last weekend. The Matt Damon-led film soared at the top spot with an estimated domestic gross of $108.7 million and an estimated foreign gross of $119.1 million, for a total estimated gross of $227.8 million on a global scale.
"Pan" centered on 12-year-old orphan Pan, who is spirited away to the enchanting realm of Neverland. Filling himself with fun and peril, he discovers his destiny, which is to become the iconic fairy tale hero known as Peter Pan. Directed by Wright, the film stars Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara, Nonso Anozie, Garrett Hedlund, Amanda Seyfried, Cara Delevingne, and Levi Miller as Pan, among others.
