We-Vibe, a sex toy for couples, is getting an upgrade. The prototype of the new model, still undergoing tweaks before it goes into production, is being scrutinized by a team of 50 women experts.

According to Vanity Fair, the experts include gynecologists, pelvic-floor physiotherapists and sexologists, to test and provide feedback. The vibrator is inserted in the woman's vagina and is worn during intercourse. It provides vibrational clitoral stimulation during penetration which would be felt by both the man and woman while having vaginal intercourse.

The original model, invented by a Canadian engineer and his wife, sold almost 4 million units globally, according to We-Vibe spokesman Tristan Weedmark.

The upgraded We-Vibe would have an internal arm, which when inserted into the woman fits up against her G-spot, and another external arm that curves along her body to the clitoris. The two arms have vibrating motors operated through a cordless remote.

It would be hands-free so no one between the heterosexual couple would need to reach down to turn on switches. With Bluetooth connection that could be controlled by a device, the pair could block or weaken a signal.

Another company, Lelo, made a similar couple's vibrator - the Tiani 2 - and sold it for $159. We-Vibe filed a patent infringement complaint with the International Trade Commission (ITC) which led to stop of deliveries in the U.S. in June 2013. However, the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned the ITC ruling that led to resumption of shipping, although Weedmark says the lawsuit is still ongoing.

Besides Tiani 2, another couple's vibrator was sold. It is Eva, which costs $105, and is bug-shaped with flexible "wings" that is placed between the labia to hold the vibrator in place while the owners are making love. It has sold more than 10,000 units.

While men before questioned the need for a couple's vibration since they have the same equipment, a growing number of them are now open to new ideas on how to improve their lovemaking. This is because, "People know sexual heath is as important as their physical and mental health" says Weedmark. And they are "ready to admit they want more and they want options," adds Janet Lieberman, founder of Eva.

Bustle lists the We-Vibe 4 as one of the five sex toys that males like as much as females because of ability to control it by remote, making Skype sex more enjoyable. The other four on the list are the disposable penis ring, the Sqweet GO USB rechargeable oral sex stimulator, hello touch and the Lelo Lyla 2 remote control vibrating love egg.
