Auditions for performers at the upcoming Shanghai Disney Resort were held over the weekend, Shanghai Daily reported.

The aspirants included dancers, musicians and comedians, all vying for residency at the first Disney theme park in mainland China which is scheduled to open in late 2015.

The first round of auditions, which took place at the Shanghai Ballet on Saturday, was for dancers set to perform on stage shows or for special events and parades around the resort. Most dancers to be picked in the final auditions will be Chinese, the report said.

Saturday's auditions drew about 100 ballet dancers, who were taught a few routines and then asked to perform them in front of the judges. They could opt to dance solo or in groups, according to media reports.

Laurie Jordan, vice president for the resort's entertainment and costuming, said that they were looking for passion, a warm attitude, a love of performing and a winning smile in the performers.

Further, the resort is looking for senior performers who can display their professional ability as well as younger dancers who can show vitality and enthusiasm, added Jordan.

The official said that the upcoming resort will feature wide-ranging performances especially choreographed and designed for the theme park. They will include parades, firework displays, stage shows, and outdoor performances, among others.

The auditions in Shanghai will proceed until December, after which they will be held in other cities such as Beijing, Jinan, Chongqing, Shenyang and Wuhan.
