"Fifty Shades Darker" star Dakota Johnson said that she wanted the fans to be able to relate to her character, Anastasia Steele. The actress added that she wanted Ana to be "funny," rather than just pure sexy.

"If you can't laugh during a movie like that, you're f--ked. Literally," Johnson told Elle.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" director Sam Taylor-Johnson added that she has always thought that Johnson will be perfect for the role of Anastasia Steele. She explained that she has this "wide-eyed, excitable curiosity" while still being grounded in a worldliness.

Taylor-Johnson added that Christian Grey's partner must be someone who possess an inner strength that would carry her through the darkest moments in their relationships.

In other news, Johnson recently expressed her support towards Jennifer Lawrence's op-ed about the gender wage gap in Hollywood. In the piece titled "Why Do I Make Less Than My Co-Stars?" the actress wrote that she had enough of making less than what she deserved because she is a woman. Lawrence added that she will start to negotiate better in future projects to receive a payout that is "equivalent to her male co-stars."

According to E! News, Johnson called Lawrence a "bold woman" for writing the op-ed piece. She added that she appreciated what "The Hunger Games" star was doing, explaining that it was about time that men and women are treated equally in Hollywood.

Many started to wonder if Johnson was calling out the producers of "50 Shades" franchise. It has long been rumored that her onscreen partner Jamie Dornan has been offered more than $1 million to go full frontal in the next movie. Some pointed out that it was quite unfair that Johnson almost bared it all in the first movie but only earned $250,000.
