The release date of the "Fifty Shades Darker" movie was reportedly pushed back because of some budget issues. Multiple reports suggest that Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) and Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) refused to start filming until the executive producers increase their salaries.
According to Youth Health Magazine, both actors are asking for a 7-figure sum just to do the sequel. The publication explained that producer Dana Brunetti was not at all happy with Dornan and Johnson's demands.
Looking at the box office success of "Fifty Shades of Grey," it did not come as a surprise that the actors wanted a bigger paycheck for the sequel. The first installment of the movie adaptation of E.L. James erotic novel earned a whopping $569 million in the worldwide box office with a $40 million budget.
Dornan and Johnson only took home $250,000 and it seems like they are not happy about it. It was said that both actors thought they deserved more.
According to Hollywood Take, actors typically get paid considerably less during the first movie in a franchise. The publication pointed out that Jennifer Lawrence was only paid $500,000 during the first "Hunger Games" movie, which made $691 million in the box office. Her salary, however, jumped to $10 million for "Catching Fire."
Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were each paid $2 million for "Twilight," which earned $392 million in the box office. Both actors also got a huge raise, receiving $12 million for "New Moon." When the last film, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" hit theatres, Pattinson and Stewart earned $25 million each and a 7.5 percent in the movie's gross revenue.
