Surface Book starting price is $1,499, while the high-end is $3,199.

Microsoft has already released a laptop that can compete head-to-head with Apple’s MacBook Pro and other premium Windows laptops.

The recently launched laptop is called Surface Book. It can be a tablet as well as it contain a display that detaches into something like a digital clipboard, Forbes reported. With the Surface Book, Microsoft managed to leverage that expensive, paid-for knowledge and build something compelling out of the gate.

Microsoft is hoping to redefine what a PC is with its approach to design. Just like the Surface tablets that came before it, the Surface Book is an innovative take on what a hybrid PC can be.

Surface Book features a unique 'dynamic fulcrum' hinge, which consists of small segments that seem to roll outward, lifting up the screen, which is attached to the final segment, rather than pivoting on a fixed point. The screen in place is consists of spring-loaded wire locks, which engage or disengage electronically rather than using a flimsy lever to unclip the display. It measures 232 x 312 x 22.8 mm and weighs 1.58kg.

It features two USB 3.0 ports, a full-size SD card reader and a Mini DisplayPort, as well as 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. the laptops has also a magnetic clip on the tablet section's edge which holds a compatible Surface Pen in place - a handy addition for those with illustrative or notation duties.

To make it top of the line laptop, it features Intel's 6th-generation Skylake chips (Core i5 and Core i7 series), and run under Windows 10 Pro. It has a 2.6GHz dual-core processor with Intel HD graphics 520. The 16GB of RAM is paired with internal storage options: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB.

The 13.5-inch touchscreen display has 3000 x 2000 screen resolution, with a sharp 267ppi. It also sports a 8MP rear-facing and 5MP front-facing cameras are capable of 1080p video capture. Surface Book's battery can last at an estimated 12 hours of video playback time.

The laptop has Windows Hello, a Windows 10-exclusive feature which allows the user to sign in to a device by looking at the camera. Face recognition software, which is smart enough to avoid being fooled by a photo, will verify that it is indeed the registered user and sign in for them.

Surface Book price starts at $1,499 and the 1TB of internal storage version sells at $3,199, according to The Verge.
