"Crimson Peak" actress Jessica Chastain has shared her thoughts on her low paycheck for Ridley Scott's sci-fi film "The Martian."
In her interview with The Huffington Post (via Facebook), Chastain explained the distance between genders in a male conquered industry, specifically the material and compensation differences. In fact, the actress said that she made less than a quarter of what had been reported for the movie and she indicated that the matter has increased footing in every aspect of the industry.
For the actress, "misinformation" is one of the things that need to be addressed to resolve the gender gap issue.
According to Indiewire, Chastain had reportedly pocketed $7 milion for Scott's "Tha Martian" while he co-star Matt Damon was paid $25 milion. However, the actress got a reported paycheck of les than $1.75 milion, which was incredibly low when compared to Damon's projected salary range of $15 to $25 milion.
"The Martian" follows the astronaut Mark Watney as he gets stranded on Mars following a windstorm. The incident prompts the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) team to make a move to save Watney. The film stars Michael Peña, Sebastian Stan, Donald Glover, Mackenzie Davis, Sean Bean, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, and Damon as Watney.
Meanwhile, Chastain is playing Lady Lucille Sharpe in del Toro's "Crimson Peak." The film also stars Mia Wasikoska as Edith Cushing, Tom Hiddleston as Sir Thomas Sharpe, Charlie Hunnam as Dr. Alan McMichael, and Jim Beaver Caster Cushing, among others.
