Over 300 participants from Shanghai joined in setting a record for "the most people eating breakfast in bed" for The Guinness Book of World Records on Nov. 12.

With exactly 388 people taking part in the event held at Pudong Shangri-La Hotel, the attempt to be on Guinness was successfully pushed through.

In a report from CNN, the affair was part of a breast cancer-awareness campaign organized by the More than Aware Breast Cancer Support Group.

After verification, Shanghai now holds the title of a city with the "most people eating breakfast in bed."

There were 202 double- and queen-sized beds used for achieving the record.

Participants, both foreign and local Chinese, ate their breakfast served on a dinner tray placed on their legs all at the same time. They were asked to have their legs fully within the bed while eating.

The menu, Shanghailist.com said, included croissants, fruits and noodles. The required meal to be able to get the title should consist of "two breakfast food items plus a beverage."

Shanghai beat Sydney, Australia, which previously held the record with 288 people participating in a similar event held at Sydney's Martin Place. It was led by Priceline and Women's Health on March 12, 2012.

The Guinness World Records recognizes non-profit organizations that raise awareness on their issues by doing stunts that set world-class titles.
