Power Rangers reboot is joint production of both Saban and Lionsgate and directed by Dean Israelite.

New "Power Rangers" reboot details will feature the names of the original "MMPR" TV series, Scorpina as the main villain and the Green Ranger not appearing in the film.

It looks like Saban and Lionsgate's take on the "Power Rangers" reboot film will be using the original names from the "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" TV series after the rumored name change of the five teenage characters that are destined to become earth's defenders. The announcement came in a tweet from the official Power Rangers series Twitter page as it mentioned that names of Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini and Kimberly, thus confirming it to be a reboot of the first TV series.

Several rumors claimed that the name change was due to Saban's plan of making the "Power Rangers" reboot follow the continuation of the TV series taking place after the current show, "Power Rangers: Dino Charge", but seeing as they are planning to stick with the original names, it is safe to assume that the "Power Rangers" will be a standalone film and will be separating from the main TV series continuation.

Aside from the character names, there is also a speculation that a sixth Power Ranger will not be present in film as Tommy Oliver's name is not present the official cast, Australia News Network reported. Tommy Oliver was portrayed by martial artist and Power Ranger TV series alumni Jason David Frank, who will likely be part of the reboot film as his character will be training the five new rangers.

It was rumored that Frank's character could be the father of the new Red Ranger, Callum Oliver (Dacre Montgomery) just before the announcement that film will be using the original names.

There is also speculation that the main villain in the "Power Rangers" reboot movie could be Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd's former general, Scorpina after a theory that she was not "purified" by Zordon's energy during the events of "Power Rangers in Space", while other reports claim that both Saban and Lionsgate are searching for a "big name" actor/actress to play the main villain in the reboot, Variety reports.

"Power Rangers" reboot is scheduled to launch in cinemas on Jan. 13, 2017.
