New details for the "Power Rangers" reboot film have been revealed regarding its official title, character changes and Jason David Frank's rumored role in the movie.
Saban revealed several changes within the "Power Rangers" reboot film as franchise creator Haim Saban did some revisions to the film. The reboot name is officially called "Saban's Power Rangers" and Saban coordinated with film's script writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz. Some of these changes includes the names of the five teenagers that will eventually become earth's defenders, Collider reported.
The first of these is Callum Oliver (Dacre Montgomery), the Red Ranger who was described as a former high school football star that has lost his way due an unfortunate event, but soon finds out he is destined for greatness. The Pink Ranger will be named Priya Patel (Naiomi Watts) and she is described as popular high school girl who has just returned from school after a mysterious six month absents. Brian Olsen (Rj Cyler) will be the Blue Ranger and he is described as the smart and often excentric friend of Callum. Oscar Fernandez (Ludi Lin) is the Black Ranger, a fun loving person uses his confidence and bravado to hide his insecurities and Teyana Jones, the Yellow Ranger is the "new kid" in town with often anti-social personality due to her moving around place-to-place, often involving her parent's work.
Despite the name changes, the "Power Rangers" reboot film still incorporates details of their powers from the original "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" series such as the Tyrannosaurus, Pterodctyl, Triceratops, Mastodon and Sabre-Tooth Tiger. What is interesting in the name change is the Red Ranger last name which is Oliver, which fans quickly noticed.
Since the film will be part of the original TV series line-up, it is speculated that Callum Oliver could be the son of veteran Power Ranger member, Tommy Oliver (Jason David Frank), Screenrant reported.
Frank stated in an interview that he will have some involvement in the film as rumors for his role hinted to be a former ranger who is tasked to train the future Power Rangers in the film. Tommy Oliver is known to have multiple ranger roles in TV series as he started from being the Green Ranger, White Ranger, Red Ranger (twice) and Black Ranger. The "Power Rangers" reboot film is said to have a budget of $35 million, which is somewhat a surprise given the average cost of upcoming movies nowadays.
"Power Rangers" reboot is scheduled to launch in cinemas on Jan. 13, 2017.
