J.A. Bayona's "World War Z" sequel hits theaters on June 9, 2017.

J.A. Bayona's forthcoming zombie thriller film "World War Z 2" has found its new screenwriter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dennis Kelly is set to write the script for the film sequel to Marc Foster's 2013 zombie thriller "World War Z." He will follow the path taken by Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, and Damon Lindelof, who penned the screenplay for the Brad Pitt-starred film.

Kelly is experienced in penning the screenplay of sci-fi and thriller pieces, which indicates that "World War Z 2" is in good hands. The writer is known for his works, including the three-season comedy series "Pulling," the mystery sci-fi drama series "Utopia," and Kevin Macdonald's adventure thriller film "Black Sea."

"World War Z" was based on Max Brook's novel of the same name; however, the film had made a considerable deviance from its source, as per Cinema Blend. The publication said that Bayona's film sequel would deviate again from the original film and is assumed to adapt more elements from Brook's work.

Along with Bayona and Kelly, Max Brooks and Steven Knight are also on board to co-write the film screenplay. David Ellison, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Brad Pitt are set to co-produce the film sequel.

Pitt is set to reprise his role as Gerry Lane in the film sequel. Since the sequel is in its early phase of development, exact details on the plot, new characters, and cast are yet to be revealed.

Bayona's "World War Z 2" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on June 9, 2017.
