‘Splatoon’ Bags Best Nintendo Game, Best Family Game At Golden Joystick Awards 2015

Splatoon won the Best Nintendo Game award at the 2015 Golden Joystick Awards.

"Splatoon," the third-person shooter video game exclusive to the Wii U platform bagged the Best Nintendo award at the recently concluded Golden Joystick Awards 2015.

Released in May, "Splatoon" was highly praised for its colorful and refreshing gameplay also won the Best Family Game award. The game was met with critical and commercial success since its release. The latest accolade the game received was the Golden Joystick award for Best Nintendo Game. "Splatoon" went head-to-head against some of the well-established franchise in video game history. Finalists for this category include "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D" and "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate."

The biggest winners for this year's Golden Joystick Awards include "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" and "Grand Theft Auto 5."

"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" went home with five awards including the highly coveted Ultimate Game of the Year Award. The game's developer, CD Projekt RED, also won the Studio of the Year Award. A new award added to the studio's growing list of accolades. "The Witcher" also won Best Storytelling award, Best Visual Design and Best Gaming Moment, according to BBC.

"Grand Theft Auto 5" won the Best Multiplayer award, Innovation of the year award, Best PC Game award and the PlayFire Most Played award.

The annual Golden Joystick Awards, also known as People's Gaming Awards, is now on its 33rd year and has a long standing tradition of honoring the best of the best in the video game universe. It is also the second oldest game award ceremony next to Arcade Awards. The winners of the annual Golden Joystick Awards are chosen by the British general public, according to Gamnesia.
