China will be installing 6,000 movie screens in campuses nationwide as the country's top media regulator and education department inked a memorandum on Tuesday for the university theater construction campaign.
China's Ministry of Education and the State of Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) announced that they will be supporting the "National Campus Movie Theater Chain" by installing movie screens in university campuses across the nation within three to five years. The screens are expected to cater to the needs of higher education, primary and high school students.
The new university theaters will aid in the dissemination of China's cultural heritage and socialist education to the students. They will also be used to spread positive accounts about the country, while also training the students to enter the creative industry.
Three entities will cooperate to establish the National Campus Movie Theater Chain. These include the Huaxia Film Distribution Company, China Education TV and the China Education Publishing & Media Group Limited. The campaign will be backed by China's Ministry of Education and the SAPPRFT.
Du Yubo, the vice-minister for education, said that he hopes the new campus theater chain will aid in the students' cultural activities while also encouraging new ways to tackle education.
Du also stated that he hopes the campus theaters will succeed not only in the social aspect, but also in the economic as well.
Tong Gang, the vice president of the SAPPRFT, mentioned that he also hopes the campaign will help find new approaches in learning, for it has significant strategic importance.
