A spokesperson for China's foreign ministry announced on Tuesday that the country welcomes India's new special envoy on border talks and looks forward to continuing discussions on relevant matters the soonest possible time.
The ministry's spokesperson Hua Chunying said that China and India entered into an agreement during a critical point of the talks, according to the Global Times.
"We are willing to hold a new round of special representatives' talks on border issues at an appropriate time, and push forward the settlement of the problem based on the principles and consensus reached by both sides in previous talks," she said.
"To settle the border problem between China and India at an early date meets both countries' common interests and the strategic target agreed by both state leaders," Hua said during a briefing with media.
China and India will actively find a solution to the border dispute that is fair and just to both sides, and to do this, China will cooperate with India in advancing border negotiations, the spokesperson added.
China and India's 2,000-kilometer border does not have an official demarcation.
To resolve border disputes, among which was a conflict that erupted in 1962, the two countries decided to set up special representatives meetings in 2003.
The meetings have had 17 rounds of discussions since.
