"Longmire" season 5 has finally been renewed by Netflix. After months of speculation about the show's fate, fans received the much awaited announcement regarding the series' renewal.
As posted on the show's official Facebook page, "Longmire" will be back on the streaming site for a fifth season. The announcement was liked by more than 80,000 fans and was shared over 17,000 times.
Many of the fans thanked Netflix for their decision to renew the series. They shared that they have been hooked by the show's interesting storyline and could not wait on what's to come, given that nail-biting cliffhanger.
Some also posted that they have been binge-watching season 4 while waiting for the announcement.
Some fans also wondered if it was possible to have more than 10 episodes come season 5.
On the other hand, some speculated that A&E made a big mistake by cancelling the series. Fans of the show have started several online petition when the network pulled the plug in season 3. It explained that in spite of its huge following and good ratings, it just did not fit their target demographic. Thankfully, the streaming site picked it up for another season.
In an interview with Yahoo! TV, executive producer John Coveny shared that when they pitched the series to Netflix, they envisioned the show to last for at least 8 to 10 more seasons. Coveny explained that there are still a lot more stories to tell, adding that they just barely made a scratch to it in season 4.
