Asus PadFone S2 will be packed with Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon 820.

Asus is set to unveil its PadFone S2 in March 2016 and reports claimed that the smartphone will be packed with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820.

The follow-up to PadFone S will apparently be released by the Taiwanese company as early as the first quarter of 2016, according to a leaked Weibo post picked up by Tech Times. The user named @Leakfly also unleashed the purported specs of the Padfone 2 on the Chinese website.

Leakfly indicated on the Weibo post that the Asus Padfone 2 could be one of the first smartphones alongside the Xiaomi 5 Plus to have the powerful, efficient Snapdragon 820 chipset.

Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon processor is set to enter the market in December, several months before the rumored release of the Asus smartphone. If rumors proved to be true, the smartphone will most likely run with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The smartphone will reportedly include a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560, a 20.7 main camera and a decent 8 MP front cam. In comparison, the previous PadFone only had a 2MP secondary camera.

To effectively handle heavy phone usage and media files such as images and videos, the successor to the PadFone S would also have 4GB of RAM and a choice of either 32GB or 64GB for the internal storage.

No detail was given about external storage support, whether through microSD or USB On-The-Go devices. However, the Padfone 2 could have the same 64GB external storage support of the previous Padfone device.

Handling the various processes simultaneously occurring in the smartphone, a 3,060 mAh battery will be placed. The battery juice is a big improvement from the 2,300 mAh battery of the Padfone S.

Meanwhile, the forthcoming Padfone's dock will reportedly have a 5,100 mAh battery supporting the 10-inch screen.

According to 9to5 Google, ASUS will reap the benefits if the 2016 Padfone gets great reviews similar to what the Zenfone 2 had for the balance between price and performance.
