A contest for household service workers was held on Friday in Chongqing, according to Women of China.

The Fifth Household Service Skills Competition was organized by the Chongqing Women's Federation and other groups with the aim of promoting the home support industry.

Nearly 1,000 workers in the field joined the contest and bested one another in areas such as practical life skills and professional caring services, according to the report.

Only 10 of the contestants advanced to the finals after asserting their skills in the home management service rounds, where their knowledge of their work and their actual usage of it were evaluated.

Household help firms offered work to the contestants who did well during the rounds.

Tight competition in the finals yielded winners You Xianjin, Wang Cangqun and Guo Yang, who took the prizes for maternal-child nursing, housekeeping and elderly care services, respectively.

The Chongqing Training Center for Women and Children said that the industry of home support is growing and it can be the answer to the joblessness problem in cities and districts.

About 40 household service firms that were present during the competition held an activity to promote the industry of home support.
