Samsung's new Gear S2 smartwatch is pictured at a event beside the consumer electronics trade fair IFA in Berlin, Germany, September 3, 2015.

The Samsung Gear S2 was only released in October but the smartwatch has already received major critical praise due to its major upgrades and features. The device features a faster processor, more user friendly interface and more customizable than its predecessor.

Samsung is not new in the smartwatch industry. In fact, the company started making smartwatches in 2013 and the Samsung Gear S2 is already on its seventh iteration. For many analysts, Samsung may have finally cracked the formula for the best smartwatch design and features.

Unlike the Apple Watch, the Samsung Gear S2 sports a round face which makes it look more like a traditional analog watch rather than a complicated gadget that looks like it was taken straight out of a sci-fi film. The Gear S2 is also slim compared to most smartwatches that are currently out in the market.

The Samsung Gear S2's body is made from stainless steel and its strap is available in either black or white. The 1.2-inch AMOLED screen has the highest pixel density for any round smartwatch and currently sits at 302 pixels per inch, according to The Guardian. The Apple Watch also has a 302ppi pixel density.

The Samsung Gear S2 has a Samsung Exynos 3250 processor and 512MB of RAM. It has 4GB of storage space. In terms of connectivity, it has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC sensors, according to Techno Buffalo.

The Samsung Gear S2 is compatible to with Android devices but the smartwatch itself does not run on Google's Android Wear operating system. Instead, it runs on Samsung's own Tizen operating system.
