Google is working on child-friendly versions of some of its most successful products, including YouTube and Chrome, in a bid to make Web browsing "fun and safe for children."

Reports revealed that the Internet giant is creating versions of its search engine, YouTube and Chrome especially for children aged 12 years old and below.

"We want to be thoughtful about what we do, giving parents the right tools to oversee their kids' use of our products," Google Engineering Vice-President Pavni Diwanji told the USA Today.

According to Diwanji, the idea was to make Google Search, Chrome and YouTube easier to use based on technologies being already used both at home and in school.

"The big motivator inside the company is everyone is having kids, so there's a push to change our products to be fun and safe for children," she explained, adding that, being a mom of two kids, she acknowledges the role of technology toward the children's future success.

She also explained that the purpose of the initiative was to make the Internet "fun and safe for children."

Google is yet to publicize a timeframe for the project, though Diwanji emphasized that it will be a full-time effort and not just an experiment.

A spokesperson from the company refused to comment, but confirmed that the initiative described in the report published by USA Today was accurate.

Prior to the report, the company has already launched kid-friendly efforts such as the Doogle 4 Google competition, the virtual Maker Camper and the Made with Code Initiative.
