Esmeralda from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" is set to have her live-action film.

Another Disney classic is set to bring one of its classic animated tales to the big screen; this time, it is "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."

According to The Tracking Board, Chernin Entertainment is developing a live-action film entitled "Esmeralda," which was inspired by "Notre-Dame de Paris," a novel authored by Victor Hugo in 1829.   The film centers on the point of view of Esmeralda, as per the publication.

While Esmeralda was popularized by Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" in 1996, the storyline of the Disney classic deviated from the novel. Both the film and the novel featured Esmeralda as an astute Romani girl, along with her pet goat Djali.

Iconic with her tambourine in performing her tricks and dances, Esmeralda became attached and formed a deepened relationship with the twisted Quasimodo and sought protection from the cruel Claude Frollo, who envy her because of refused advances.

Along with Chernin Entertainment setting up its live-action iteration of the Disney classic, it has Disney has also achieved a new milestone with the success of its live-action films like "Alice in wonderland," "Maleficent," and "Cinderella." According to Cinema Blend, most of the remakes center on one character from Disney's works, which sets the films apart from their written adaptation.

Aside from "Hunckback of Notre Dame," a number of classic tales are set for cinematic adaptation, including "Beauty and the Beast," "Jungle Book," "Mulan," "Pinocchio," "Winnie the Pooh," "The Sword In The Stone," "Cruvella de Vil," and "Little Mermaid," among others.

With Chernin Entertainment's live-action "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" in its early phase of development, exact details on the plot, characters, cast, director, and release date are yet to be revealed.
