Castle and Beckett from "Castle"

Rumors of "Castle" being cancelled after season 8 continues to persist online. Multiple reports suggest that one of the lead stars, Beckett (Stana Katic) or Castle (Nathan Fillion) will be killed in the finale.

According to Morning News USA, fans were not happy with the current storyline, resulting to a drop in ratings. The outlet reported that the most recent episode only received a 1.1 for the 18-49 demographic, which is not a good sign.

It was said that the drop in ratings was caused by fans who decided to boycott the series until Castle and Beckett get back together. Although the writers, time and again, have insisted that their separation was only temporary some viewers claimed that the split was unnecessary. Some even claimed that the level of writing was going downhill.

In other news, TV Line recently posted a blind item saying that a "co-lead" on an "established drama series" would be killed off in the fall finale. Many immediately started to speculate that the writer was referring to either Castle or Beckett.

With all things happening to the couple, it would not be a stretch to think that one of them may get killed off. Some say it was the producers' "desperate attempt" to bring drama to the show.

Showrunners Terrence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley, however, clarified that they are not planning to kill Castle, Beckett or any of the series regulars in the show. Hawley added that fans can definitely look forward to more exciting plotline this January.
