Putting Arrogant, Bratty Days Behind Part Of Justin Bieber’s Strategy To Beat 1D At Billboard 200

Prince Harry met One Direction member Harry Styles at the Royal Variety performance.

Justin Bieber desperately wants to beat One Direction this week at the charts. That desire explains why he appears to have placed behind his arrogant and bratty behavior.

Besides the improved behavior, another strategy adopted by Bieber is to boost sales of his "Purpose" album by offering to buyers tickets to two shows last week in Staples Center. The strategy resulted in the sales of another 40,000 albums, reports Pagesix.

Bieber's team also partnered with Lyft, a ride-hailing app, by putting in place a "buy and ride" button which, when clicked, gives riders a download of the album for $5.

Both Bieber and 1D released their new albums on Friday. The 1D album, "Made in the A.M.," is the boy band's goodbye track as the group takes a one-year hiatus to focus on individual performances.

Rather than misbehave again, Bieber made up with Seth Rogen on "The Ellen Degeneres Show" and would appear this week on "The Tonight Show"" and "Today" to promote his new album. On Saturday night, the Canadian singer performed for an hour at Up&Down and at 10ak. He sang five songs at 10ak and treated fans to a round of drinks.

Billboard reports that "Purpose" was slightly ahead with expected sales of 475,000 to 500,000 units, while 1D is not far with sales of 425,000 to 450,000 albums. The two albums are performing stronger than pre-release forecasts for the Billboard 200 chart which ranks the most popular albums based on multi-metric consumption.

All past four albums of 1D debuted number 1 on Billboard, while Bieber has five number 1 albums since 2010.
