Google+ Relaunches With Focus On Community Groups Sharing Content

Google+ is Google's own take at the social networking platform.

Google is relaunching its Google+ social network, which will focus on Collections and Community groups instead of trying to be everything to everyone. Collections creates a group of content based on one idea that is shared with other social network users, while a Community allows people with the same interest to share what they are into, such as sports, astronomy, books, photography, or food. The new and improved Google+ is rolling out for the Web, Android, and iOS on November 17, Tuesday.

Google+ was originally launched in 2011, according to PC World. It has combined the two features of its Community groups and Collections curated posts about certain topics of interest.

The search giant probably revamped Google+ to save the service, according to Engadget. It first launched as a Facebook-type social network that allowed users to share status updates, photos, and links with "circles" of friends.

Google Plus did not take off. However, one positive feature that it produced was its cloud-based Google Photos, which was pulled out of Google+ at this year's I/O developer conference. Its chat service Hangouts also now has a separate website.

The new Google Plus is now less about chatting and sharing with real-life friends. Instead, it will focus on finding topics about users' interests, and meeting new Web friends who share those interests.

Google's original goals for the social network ended quite a while ago. The company has decided to spotlight the most popular Google+ features.

It is important to note that the new Google+ is missing some of its old features. For example, fans of Events should keep using the old design.
