'Fresh Off The Boat' Renewed; ABC Orders Extension Of 4 Comedy Shows

"Fresh Off The Boat" season 2 to set to premier on Sept. 22 on ABC.

To prepare itself for the upcoming mid-season when several of its hit shows are likely to go on hiatus, ABC has ordered four of its comedy shows to add extra episodes.

"The Middle," "The Goldbergs," "Black-ish" and "Fresh Off The Boat" have received an order to add extra episodes in their current season, Deadline reported. The order will bring all these shows to a 24-episodes season.

The news made the makers of "FOTB" to rejoice as the show was given a 9-episode extension in May. The comedy series had premiered its second season with 13-episode initial order in October.

"FOTB" is scheduled on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in March when "The Muppets" will conclude its debut run. The show, which is a situational comedy about a Taiwanese family as they adjust in Washington D.C., is reportedly receiving a great response in its sophomore run.

Talks are still on for the extension of "Modern Family" and ABC is likely to announce the same very soon. The mid-season extension orders surely point at the network's confidence in these shows.

This is the second time that ABC is going for 24-episode run for all four of its Wednesday shows, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The move comes amid the revelation that several of ABC's hit shows will go on a hiatus soon. Since "Quantico," "Once Upon A Time" and "Marvel's Agent Of SHIELD" will be ending in January, the channel is determined to keep its audience entertained through extended comedy shows along with the addition of new season of "The Family" and "American Crime."
