Nicki Minaj's ex-boyfriend Safaree Samuels has opened up what it was like to be with the "Anaconda" singer.

In an interview with Ebony, Samuels revealed that he had to put a lot of his dreams on hold in order to play the role of a "supportive boyfriend" to Minaj. He shared that he had to be submissive in order for their relationship to work. He described Minaj as a strong-minded woman who had to take the lead.

Samuels added that Minaj cannot be with a man who cannot handle being told what to do.

"If you're going to be with her, you have to be okay with her running the show at times," he explained.

The problem with a man taking the submissive role, however, is that the woman would often forget the difference between having a boyfriend and an employee. Samuels shared that women should know how to "turn it off," adding that men do not want to feel like they were being bossed around in the bedroom.

Samuels hinted that things did not go so well with Minaj always taking the lead in their relationship.

"In this case, you have to let her learn on her own if she is too headstrong. Sometimes as a man, you just have to walk away with your dignity and your self-respect."

Samuels recently called out Minaj, alleging that the rapper refused to give him credit on some of the songs he wrote for "The Pinkprint." Minaj, however, refuted his claims during her tour in Toronto.

According to E! News, Minaj held that Samuels could not possibly write her songs as he did not have the "heart, mindframe or intellect" to do so. She pointed out that Samuels count not even pronounce some of the lyrics in her rap.
