World's most popular search engine, Google has introduced a search feature that features the lyrics of songs that one searches to return above the search results as part of its exercise to popularize 'Google's Knowledge Graph'. This move by Google seems to reduce the number of visits to websites containing music lyrics and rank high in Google search results such as azlyrics or songlyrics, among others.
While as a user one needs to key in only song title and the word -'lyrics' to find it on Google, the high ranking websites definitely would be worried with decreasing traffic in days ahead. But the real story behind Google's latest move is that by showing a short extract on the search result page, Google is promoting its own content over the third party websites as the users are urged to click through Google Play if they want to see the lyrics of the full song.
Without an official release from the company on this, Google has been beta testing this new feature over last few months and is yet to be known when it was made available for everyone. However, many believe that it was accessible to all in last few days only.
Google's search results are getting smarter every time and as part of its latest move, one can find music lyrics displayed at the top of its search results pages when one searches for a song name and lyrics on Google. Nonetheless, it is also pertinent to note that one cannot find all the songs in Google's search lyrics indicating that the popular search engine might be working on a select database of lyrics without rubbing on the content from top websites providing lyrics.
