Fans gathered in front of the main entrance of Grenoble University Hospital Centre where former German Formula One driver Michael Schumacher was being treated for a severe head injury following a skiing accident on January 3, 2014 in Grenoble, France.

F1 ex-racer Michael Schumacher is making progress in his health amid elusive updates on his condition.

In a recent interview, former Ferrari President Luca Cordero di Montezemolo described Schumi's fight for life as "terrible." Montezemolo's statement sparked doubts about the current health state of the former Formula 1 champion.

The seven-time F1 champion is currently undergoing treatment at the comfort of his home in Geneva, Switzerland. He is recuperating from severe head and brain injuries sustained while skiing at the French Alpine Meribel Resort in December 2013. The accident left Schumi under a medically induced coma to stabilize the condition.

Reportedly, Schumacher is under extensive care of 15 medical experts 24/7 in his home, which has a state-of-the-art medical suite.

Montezemolo also added that it pains him to see the German racing superstar struggling to overcome the challenges as he is on the road to recovery, International Business Times reported.

Talking to the German news outlet RTL, di Montezemolo said, "Michael was fundamental for Ferrari, for me, for our lives. He is an extraordinary person, a person who has always worked for the team, a person who has been found, especially in the difficult moments as an absolute team player. He is the driver in the history of Ferrari, who has won more than any other so much."

The former Ferrari president added that Schumacher represents something unique. "To see him in this situation is terrible."

The condition is so hard for di Montezemolo that he does not know what to do except recalling so many great moments he celebrated with Schumi.

While Schumacher's fans and friends hope for more updates on the F1 ex-racer's condition, the family has been keeping all details private.
