The University of Bucharest's Law School is one of the organizers of the conference, "Law in a Transformed Society.”

The first Chinese-Romanian legal academic exchange has kicked off on Monday, Nov. 23, during the two-day global conference titled "Law in a Transformed Society."

The event, first initiated by the Confucius Institute in Bucharest, aims to gather scholars from the organizing institutions, the Law School of the University of Bucharest and the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing.

During the conference, University of Bucharest Pro-Rector Magdalena Iordache Platis expressed her gratitude for efforts made by the Chinese professors to come to their place.

"We are all interested in cooperation because the impact of globalization is a fact for all of us, irrespective of the field of activity, we are living in a globalized society," she further said.

For Zeng Jixin, chief counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Bucharest, the event is "a good opportunity to exchange views, a very good beginning, of special significance."

Meanwhile, Chinese professor Jiao Hongchang said that he is optimistic that "this is only the beginning for future cooperation and exchanges of projects and students between our schools."

"This is the beginning. Romania and China have a lot in common during the last two centuries, many similarities in law fields," Confucius Institute in Bucharest co-director Xue Xiaojian said.

The Chinese experts presented a number of papers that aim to enrich the knowledge of their counterparts in Bucharest. The presentations included "The Evolution of Presidential Institution in China," "The Transformation of Policy: Improvement of the Chinese Constitutional Review Mechanism Considered," and "On the Democracy of China's Administrative Legislative System and Procedure," among others.

In turn, Romanian academicians taught the Chinese experts about their law system's specific features and challenges through the papers, "The Advance of Meritocracy in the Evolution of the Romanian Society," "Cabinet Appointing Procedures in Central and South East European Democracies," and "The Reform of the Romanian Electoral System and Its Influence over Political Representation."
