Real Madrid players celebrate Karim Benzema's opening goal against Getafe.

A high-profile matchup between two of the 2015-2016 La Liga season's leading contenders Villarreal CF (7-4-3, 24 points) and Real Madrid (9-2-3, 30 points) is set to take place at the Estadio El Madrigal on December 13th, Sunday as both teams try to close their gaps at league-leading Barcelona.

Villarreal pulled off a come-from-behind victory over Rayo Vallecano, 2-1, at their home field on Sunday with a brace from Congolese forward Cedric Bakambu, as per USA Today.

Los Vallecanos midfielder Jozabed drew first blood in the match four minutes before the halftime break to threaten an upset against Marcelino's boys.

However, Bakambu was there to rescue El Submarino Amarillo, scoring his first goal at the 69th minute before following it up with another one four minutes before full-time to snatch the win away from Rayo.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid continues its impressive form after the El Clásico setback against Barça last month with a 4-1 demolition of Getafe last Saturday at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, as reported by SkySports.

The team's trio of superstars, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, and Cristiano Ronaldo, provided the goals for Rafa Benitez's side while El Geta defender Alexis was the only one to answer back from the visitors at the 70th minute.

Benzema had a brace at the fourth and 16th minutes, while Bale and Ronaldo gave one apiece at the 35th and 38th minutes respectively to push Los Blancos to a 4-0 lead during the halftime break.

The prediction is Real Madrid over Villarreal, 3-0. Ronaldo and company are eager to redeem themselves from their recent debacles and to prove that they are the true kings of the Spanish top flight.

Villarreal starting lineup (4-4-2 formation): Areola; Costa, Bailly, Ruiz, Marin; dos Santos, Pina, Bruno, Suarez; Soldado, Bakambu

Real Madrid starting lineup (4-3-3 formation): Navas; Lucas, Pepe, Nacho, Danilo; Modric, Kroos, Rodriguez; Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo
