Is LG G5 Google’s Pick As Nexus 2016 Flagship Smartphone? Android Device Rumored For February Release Date Next Year

LG G4 is a smartphone developed by LG Electronics.

Rumors have started circulating that the LG G5 is coming out as early as February 2016 and following its release date, the sequel to the LG G4 is geared to be repurposed as Google's next flagship phone - known for now as the Nexus 2016.

Slash Gear reported that LG is looking to give Samsung a good fight following the supposed rollout of the Galaxy S7 weeks after the 2016 Las Vegas in January. If the reports will prove correct, the LG G5 will be presented via the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona February next year then the commercial debut will follow shortly.

The report came out as Geek Snack had suggested earlier that for the Nexus 2016 smartphone, the chance is high that Google will again pick LG as the next Nexus phone builder. The idea was based on a recent statement made by an Android senior executive that working with LG engineers was something that Android personnel look forward to.

Somehow, the declaration hinted that Google would collaborate even more in the future with LG, which so far has produced the Nexus 4 in 2012, the Nexus 5 in 2013 and the 2015-issued Nexus 5X. In assembling these devices, LG normally used its existing flagship smartphone in a given year as base-model, which puts the G5 as device pattern for next year's Nexus phone.

If that will be the case, Google appears to be making a good decision as iDigitalTimes reported that the rumored specs being attributed to the 5.6-inch LG G5 with 2K display resolution are nothing short of impressive. The main engine is the Qualcomm behemoth that Samsung said will also power its 2016 flagship smartphones - the Snapdragon 820.

Likely supporting the SD 820 is a minimum RAM provision of 4GB and the battery could pack juice power of up to 3500mAh. The camera system to unpack with the device is 21MP on rear and 8MP on the front-facing shooter.

In a scenario that will see the LG G5 as the Nexus 2016 template, the device is believed to be joined by the Nexus 7 2016 tablet, which according to reports from China is a project that Google has awarded to Nexus 6P maker Huawei.

Both the LG Nexus 2016 phone and the Huawei Nexus 7 2016 will boast of killer device features that Android N will deliver next year. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow replacement is likely set for introduction via the annual Google I/O Developers Conference in May 2016, leading to the devices' and OS release date in the third quarter of the year.
