New ‘Lupin III’ Anime Special Lands On TV In 2016, Features Younger Lupin

Fans may rejoice as early as now, as a new "Lupin III" anime special is set to hit televisions in January 2016 and it is set to feature the iconic thief in his youth.

The anime special is entitled "Lupin III Italian Game" and it is set to air during NTV's weekly "Friday Roadshow" programming block, according to Anime News Network.

"Lupin III Italian Game" follows the abducttion of the pretty entrepreneur Rebecca Rossellini (Yujiko Fuji), who is also a featured character in the current "Lupin III" animated television series.

Along with rescuing Rosselini, the special is also set to see the titular hero get a written challenge from a mysterious person named "The Masked Count," who wants a contest on the first one who gets hold of the "inheritanc of Count Cagliostro."

Set in Italy and San Marino, the currently airing "Lupin III" features Lupin in his 20s, according to Comics Blog Italy. The anime series is the first full-fledged "Lupin III" television anime series to feature the iconic master thief since the conclusion of 1984 and 1985's "Lupin Part III" 30 years from now.

"Lupin the 3rd: The Mystery of Mamo" and "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" director Kazuhide Tomonaga is at the helm of the series while Yuuya Takahashi, who is known for "Donten ni Warau," "Tiger & Bunny," and "Lupin the IIIrdd: Daisuke Jigen's Gravestone," is on board to pen the script.

"Lupin III Italian Game" TV anime special is set to air on NTV on Jan. 8 at 9:00 p.m.
