Catherine Élise "Cate" Blanchett is an Australian actress and theatre director.

"Thor: Ragnarok" production is reportedly offering 'Lord of the Rings' actress Cate Blanchett a mystery role in the upcoming Marvel film.

Blanchett is apparently talking with Marvel regarding an offer for the "Thor: Ragnarok" to portray a female lead role, Variety reported. However, the source has not revealed other information about her character as well as the real score of the said negotiation.

Blanchett's role in Ragnarok has led her fans to come up with different speculations. Amongst the most popular rumor is that Blanchett will probably play the role of Odin's female warrior, Valkyrie, Screenrant reported.

"Thor: Ragnarok" character Valkyrie is also set to appear in the "Defenders" series, which is scheduled to roll out in Netflix. Given that speculations are quite strong despite the lack of confirmations, the character might play a huge role in connecting both universes just as in the case of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." from Marvel, which is currently underway.

Other rumors are also spreading that Blanchett could also play the role of the first female MCU villain. One option for this is the character Knorda, who is the queen of the mountain giants. Another one is Enchantress, Marvel comics' all powerful sorcerer, and Lorelei's who was seen initially in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 1.

Blanchett's previous experience with fantasy film and massive lore is seen as a major reason why Marvel decided to cast her for the role in the upcoming film.

"Thor: Ragnarok" is scheduled to have its cinematic release on Nov. 3, 2017.
