On Dec. 21, Monday, Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen took to Twitter to show support for Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, 26, who represented the Philippines.
"CONGRATULATIONS PHILIPPINES," Sen tweeted. "#Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is a beautiful n well spoken Miss Universe!! May her reign be a celebrated one!#happy."
In another tweet, Sen explained why she has a soft spot in her heart for Filipinos like Wurtzbach. She wrote, "4 me, every Filipino is family...n Philippines my 2nd home ever since 21st May 1994 winning Miss Universe in Manila a cherished blessing."
Sen also gave her opinion about the gaffe committed by Miss Universe 2015 host Steve Harvey. She tweeted, "As 4 d Host of Miss Universe 2015 #SteveHarvey a careless mistake dat hurt a NATIONS pride..try justifying dat 2 #MissColombia #disgraceful."
In 1994, Miss Universe was held in the Philippines particularly at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City. With Puerto Rico's Dayanara Torres crowning Sen as her successor at the time, India won Miss Universe for the first time.
Coincidentally, both Sen and Wurtzbach's first runners-up were Miss Colombia. Miss Universe 1994 first runner-up was Carolina Gomez while Miss Universe 2015 first runner-up was Ariadna Gutierez.
Meanwhile, despite Steve Harvey's error during the Miss Universe 2015 winner announcement, he should host Miss Universe 2016 again, according to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who was also one of the Miss Universe 2015 judges.
"They need to bring Steve Harvey back again next year, and bring me back as a special backstage correspondent," Hilton told Us Weekly.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Wurtzbach also shared about the moment the crown had to be taken away from Gutierez. She said, "She was crying and then there was a crowd around her."
