2015 Steam Winter Sale News: 10,000 Discounted Games; Is Valve Working On Alternate Reality Game?

| Dec 24, 2015 09:06 AM EST

Following the launch of the Steam Winter Sales, the platform was riddled with tech issues.

The biggest sale event of the video game community is on. The Steam Winter Sale offers staggering discounts to more than 10,000 video game titles. The sale will run until Jan. 4, 2016 at 10AM Pacific Time.

According to Ars Technica, unlike previous Steam Sale events, the 2015 event will not feature any deal that changes its discounted price over time. The 2015 Steam Winter Sale prices will remain unchanged from the time the sale launches until it is over. The gaming community welcomed this change positively as they can recommend some games without worrying that the price of a specific game will rise or drop.

Aside from the massive library of games that are currently on sale at Steam, some hardcore Steam users have a very interesting theory claiming that the Steam Winter Sale is just a front for a serious project under development. Dedicated Steam users claim that Valve, the company that owns Steam, is developing a secret Alternate Reality game.

Rumors about the game first surfaced from dedicated followers of the Steam Sale comic. Users picked up conspiracy hints from items with names like "Follow The Clues." This led many Steam users to believe that Valve is subtly pushing them to discover what it really means.

According to Kotaku, Steam users have theories claiming that clues are hidden deep in sale-specific Steam profile backgrounds, badges, cards and emoticons. The entire conspiracy theory already has its own subreddit dedicated to finding clues in order to uncover the rumored secret.
