Temperatures are expected to drop between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius sometime around Sunday and Monday in central and eastern China.

Winter is one of the most beautiful times of the year especially when snow covers almost everything. However, the season can also be very dangerous for travelers who drive through ice and snow.

For people who are planning to go on a trip during the winter, preparing is the key to be safe throughout the drive. Simply follow these tips to reach any destination across the winter wonderland without mishaps:

1. Pack emergency tools

Before heading out, make sure you have emergency tools prepared because sometimes things do not go as planned. A bag of supplies with food, water, blanket, flashlight, first aid kit, shovel, extra mobile phone batteries and ice scraper are must-haves for traveling in the snow.

2. Always fasten seat belts

Experts say that buckling up can reduce major injury by 45 percent. Drive with headlights on.

3. Slow down

On ice and snow, speeding is even more dangerous so it is a given to reduce speed and keep distance in this kind of weather condition.

"I think a lot of times they see that we have gone through and bladed the streets clean, and they think they can drive the speed limit," Public Works Street Fleet manager Galynn Huberon stated on KSFY.

"Anytime during the winter months, unless the road is dry, you probably need to be careful with your speed and how close you're traveling behind other vehicles," he further said.

4. Eyes on the road

One of the most common cause of road accidents is distraction from driving. Not looking on the road for even two seconds highly increase the risk for an accident.

5. Mobile phone for emergency

Keep mobile phone handy when traveling through snow. In case you get stranded or someone else needs help, one can easily call 911.

The last tip from AAA is watch weather reports before going out. Avoid extreme weather conditions so the best thing to do is postpone the trip if the weather forecast is bad.
