The final DLC characters for "Super Smash Bros." had some controversies after the developer company released choices that did not match what many gamers wanted during the last Nintendo Direct.

While Shovel Knight is new to the gaming stratosphere, the character could have been a great inclusion to the game. According to Design & Trend, the retro-inspired Knight has a clear lineage with Nintendo since his game premiered first on Wii U and 3DS. The exclusivity was because Shovel Knight borrows aspects from classic franchises such as "Duck Tales" and "Mega Man."

With regard to Knight's Smash version, the character's slashing and pogo capabilities are perfectly suited for the popular mashup brawler. Developers could start by tweaking Meta Knight before adding some character-specific attacks.

Shrek on the other hand had a lot of support in the recently closed Smash Ballot, according to Always Nintendo. However, the character has no link to Nintendo or gaming at all, making the campaign a pretty much lost cause.

Shrek could make a great fighter based on his heavy character like Wario or Donkey Kong, which implies that he could provide a bevy of strong and extraordinary attacks. In addition, Shrek's cartoonish aspects make him perfectly suited for the "Super Smash Bros." universe.

Meanwhile, "Splatoon's" success surprised most industry insiders. The third-person shooter has quickly become one of Nintendo's most promising franchises. Therefore, there is no reason why Inkling characters should not be incorporated in "Super Smash Bros."

Splatoon's focus on attacks makes it easy for developers to come up with great moves. Possibly the Inkling Girl version fires ink with a lighter sub weapon as Inkling Boy comes in full force with a roller. An interesting Final Smash would be a big wave of colored ink that covers the whole stage.

"Super Smash Bros." is currently available for Wii U and 3DS. The game's final character DLC is slated for a February release. Watch the clip below for more details.
