'Game Of Thrones' Book 6 Release Date: 'I've Failed Dec. 31 Deadline,' Says GoT 'Winds Of Winter' Author George RR Martin

Bran Stark is all grown up and will be seen after a hiatus of one whole season in "Game Of Thrones" season 6.

According to George RR Martin, author of the "Game of Thrones" Book 6, the release date of the novel cannot be confirmed ahead of the popular TV series in early 2016. He also said that "Games of Thrones" season 6 will air before the book's release date. Martin had missed his Dec. 31 deadline for publishing "The Winds of Winter," the source material for the "Game of Thrones."

"I tried, I promise you. I failed," Martin was quoted as saying by Irish Times.

Meanwhile, HBO has already released the teaser trailer for the "Game of Thrones" and fans are already anticipating if the character John Snow, played by Kit Harrington will survive the Season 5 ending.

"The Winds of Winter" is the sixth novel in the GoT author's series of books titled "A Song Of Ice And Fire." The last book in the series was titled "A Dance with Dragons."

After an apology on his Livejournal blog, Martin stuck to his word from last March, when he said, "It will be done when it's done." He added that the "Winds of Winter" would be as good as he could possible make it.

When fans wrote in comments asking "Will the show spoil the novels," the GoT author wrote "Maybe."

"Look, I never thought the series could possibly catch up with the books, but it has. The show moved faster than I anticipated and I moved more slowly. There were other factors too, but that was the main one," he added.

Martin explained that at this point in the TV series, it is inevitable that the plot will take some twists and turns in the "Game Of Thrones" season 6 that may not correspond with events in the novels.

"For years my readers have been ahead of the viewers. This year, for some things, the reverse will be true. How you want to handle that... hey, that's up to you," Martin wrote.
