Yao Chen, one of the most popular stars in China involved philanthropic endeavors, was one of the recipients of the 2016 Crystal Award, China Radio International reported.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the World Economic Forum.
Yao is included in the roster of iconic figures who will be awarded the same honor, including Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCarpio, musician Will.I.Am and artist Olafur Eliasson.
Yao utilizes her high profile to be a role model in raising awareness in a number of social issues such as food safety and environmental pollution.
The Chinese actress was awarded specifically for her work in promoting awareness about the world refugee crisis on behalf of the U.N. refugee agency.
Referred by the chairwomen as the "Queen of Weibo," Yao also maximizes social media to spread news about various globally relevant issues. She currently has 78 million followers on the Chinese social networking site.
In her speech, Yao also called for the significance of paying attention to the refugee crises.
"You who are in attendance are the people who have the most positive energy of all. Each of you is like a beam of light. . . . Once again, I thank you all," she said.
At the same time, Academy Award nominee Leonardo DiCaprio was recognized for his work in tackling climate crisis.
"We simply cannot afford to let the corporate greed of the coal, oil, and gas industries to determine the future of humanity. Our planet cannot be saved unless we leave fossil fuels in the ground where they belong," the actor said.
Meanwhile, Will.I.Am was recognized for advocating the youth to stay in school and go to college.
Danish artist Eliasson was acknowledged for his works that help create inclusive communities.
This year's Crystal Award recipients will be honored next week during the opening session of the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos.
The Crystal Award aims to pay homage to artists who have contributed to the improvement of the state of the world. It also recognizes figures "who best represent the 'spirit of Davos,'" the report further stated.
