New "Sword Art Online" season 3 details will likely feature the "Progressive" novels and "Alicization" arc, as well as a possible launch date in the summer this year.
Anime producer Shinichiro Kashiwada stated in an interview that he would like to see Kirito and the rest of 'SAO' characters featured in the "Alicization" arc since the storyline has not been adapted into the anime series, Anime News Network reported. However, Kashiwada mentioned that the "Progressive" novels could also be implemented in season 3, speculating that both storylines will be featured within the show.
"Progressive" novels in "Sword Art Online" will serve as a reboot of the original light manga illustrated by Himura Hiseki and it will be published by Dengeki G's Comics after they parted ways with the main magazine branch.
The "Alicization" arc on the other hand, will feature Kirigaya Kazuto/Kirito taking on a new job for a mysterious organization called Rath, under orders from the VR Crime Division officer Kikouka Seijiro. Kirito will be testing out a new experimental 4th generation FullDive machine dubbed "Soul Translator" as he tries to observes its effects on people and gather more valuable data.
However, Kirito is not aware that Rath is using "Soul Translator" for military purposes and the machine became compliant. It created a new virtual world called "Underworld" and the person will notice that the time there is a thousand times faster than the real world. At some point Kirito became trapped in Underworld and will live eleven years as a child.
In other news, several rumors are making rounds regarding "Sword Art Online" season 3's release date as Reddit username "AfroNinja117" wrote on the 'SAO' Subreddit page that anime series will return in the summer this year..
The plot for the "Sword Art Online" movie will take place after the "Mother's Rosario" arc and director Tomohiko Ito and it will echo its events to that of "Avengers: Age of Ultron", Crunchyroll reported. The production team for the anime film is currently busy on its storyboard and completion of its scenario.
