Blake Griffin has been rumored to be placed on the trading block ever since he got involved in a scuffle with the team's equipment manager. It led to Blake punching him in the face and Griffin breaking his hand in the process.
Prior to the incident, Griffin was also out with injuries but the Los Angeles Clippers have done well without him and even rose to 4th place in the Western Conference behind the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
The LA Times reporter Ben Bolch did confirm that there were multiple teams that made offers for the former Slam Dunk Champion, but Clippers' team president and head coach Doc Rivers already declared that he's not moving.
"Multiple teams have contacted the Clippers about acquiring Griffin since he punched a team employee, said a person close to the situation not authorized to discuss it publicly, but the team has no interest in trading its five-time All-Star power forward," Bolch wrote."
"Blake's ours and he's going to stay ours," declared Rivers.
However, the tweet from Lawrence came later and he has emphasized that it was the Clippers who called the Nuggets.
In his column at Forbes, Lawrence mentioned the possible package that the Nuggets can put together. He also mentioned that the franchise are somewhat "leery" towards trading for superstars after their experience with Carmelo Anthony.
"Denver is said to be somewhat leery of making a move for Griffin because, in part, the Nuggets don't believe a superstar of his magnitude would be willing to re-sign when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He can exercise an early termination of his five-year, $95-million deal in 2017," Lawrence said.
The Nuggets do have a lot of desirable trade pieces that many teams could take a look at. Danilo Gallinari would probably be their best chip but Kenneth Faried is also an asset while Will Barton is a Most Improved Player candidate.
